Following an assessment in December 2005 Eemits Communications Ltd. are pleased to announce that the organisation has been awarded the coveted Investors in People Standard. It is believed that Eemits are the first two-way radio communications company in the North to achieve both BS EN ISO 9001:2000 and IIP status.Investors in People is a national standard that helps organisations to improve performance and realise objectives through the management and development of its people. IIP provides a flexible framework, which can be adapted to any organisation’s structure and requirements to help enhance productivity and profitability. IIP accreditation is only awarded to those companies that are fully committed to supporting the development of its people. The Investors in People standard now benefits almost a quarter of the country’s workforce stretching across all sectors of the economy with over 34,000 recognised organisations in the UK gaining accreditation.
Eemits has been working towards Investors In People standard through 2005 and according to Craig Matthews; Managing Director at Eemits the award has already brought real business benefits: “Our people are the key to our company and training has always been central to our company culture, but now we have a better structure to sharing knowledge and information. IIP increases staff retention, loyalty and productivity, which in turn increases customer satisfaction and increases the bottom line. All these are qualities that are really essential for us to strive for improvement in a competitive market”.
The formal assessment included a full review of Eemit’s planning processes and training and development systems. Very positive feedback highlighted details of good practice within Eemits across the entire range of Principles set by the IIP Standard.
The IIP Assessor praised Eemits strong commitment to staff development. “People within the organisation feel that their contribution to the company is recognised and that they are valued”. In addition, Eemits was commended on their comprehensive Business Plan, which all staff had felt that they had contributed towards ensuring a shared vision for the future of the Company. Throughout their interviews staff commented positively to the progressive and supportive style of the new Managing Director, Craig Matthews. In particular, the open door policy that facilitates open and constructive communications.
Feedback from the assessment also offered recommendations and encouraged further development in some areas. These covered evaluation processes, including: the introduction of annual Staff Reviews and Satisfaction Surveys to benchmark achievements; cost and analysis benefits for training activities; and continuing to encourage staff to develop their skills and broaden their expertise.
