Paging is a cost effective, long range rapid communication solution. It is available in various forms that range from a simple 'bleep' tone signal to numeric and alpha numeric messaging and two way speech. On site paging systems can make use of any of these formats and often include access to the telephone system whereas pagers linked to national or international systems generally receive alpha numeric messages via a remote phone-in control bureau. Paging makes it possible for the workforce to be independent of their work stations without being out of touch.
All systems are upgradeable and can interface with any number of features - for instance where the system is used for building alarm monitoring, plant management and process control handset users can receive warning text messages. For hazardous environments intrinsically safe handsets, which are ATEX approved, are available with man down features. For increased flexibility it is possible to connect the paging infrastructure to the telephone system.
