Chemical and Manufacturing Communications Solutions - Eemits Communications Ltd

Chemical and Manufacturing Processing

Hazardous environments need rock-solid communications. Anything less isn't worth it.

We provide radio solutions for the highest-level COMAH-regulated sites. Their needs are exacting, critical and demanding, often requiring bespoke two-way radio systems that may have to comply with the ATEX directive.

Distributed, leaky feeder and passive antennae systems, as well as multi-site radio solutions, linked by corporate LAN or Wireless Broadband Networks, ensure complete radio coverage even in hostile and challenging locations such as hard-to-reach places or areas of dense steel. If there is power or channel failure, battery back-up UPS and automated radio channel changeover modules immediately kick in to keep communications open and ensure there is built in redundancy. For enhanced security, voice encryption facilities can be incorporated so conversations and vital information appear 'scrambled' to any unauthorised listener.

Chemical plants often require a system with multiple voice channels to eliminate 'cross-talk' interference. This also ensures there is a dedicated emergency channel always available for major incidents. Both can be achieved with digital or trunked MPT 1327 two-radio systems.

To protect workers in hazardous environments, features such as caller ID, lone worker, 'mandown' alarms, telephone interconnect, internal and external GPS tracking, and plant emergency alarms, can be incorporated. When an alarm is activated, it is automatically escalated through a chain of priority and/or simultaneously routed to third party emergency response teams

For high-noise environments, we offer customised ATEX two-way radio systems that can block our background sound. We combine these with a variety of ATEX hearing-protective headsets - with hands-free (VOX) operation, if necessary - that still allow clear and comfortable conversations. We also have systems specifically designed for use in confined spaces and for workers who wear heavy, protective clothing - such as chemical suits - yet need easy-to-use radios.

Operational efficiencies can be achieved through the remote monitoring and control of plant processes and detectors using telemetry and data messaging; for example, the switching on or off of pumps and the monitoring of gas detectors. Critical procedures, such as the filling of tanks, can be given extra protection by fitting a task-specific alarm to indicate when the task is complete (or in trouble).

As shut-downs and overhauls are a periodic requirement for chemical plants, it's important that any contractors brought on site are provided with a reliable and well-managed ATEX-approved two-way radio system, tailored to their needs. It's also important to ensure that this does not impact adversely on the site owners' main communications system

Many companies with plants spread throughout the UK, and sometimes overseas, are moving to centralised control rooms where more and more processes are controlled remotely. However, it's important that the central control room, or 'hub', can communicate with staff wherever they are working with whichever radio system the remote plant uses. By incorporating Radio Over Internet Protocol (ROIP) it enables interoperability between different Two Way Radio technologies including TETRA, Trunked, Digital and Analogue Two Way Radio. The control room can be located anywhere in the world and still talk with workers at geographically remote sites, plus workers can also talk directly with one another. In addition, the emergency and process alarms of remote sites can be managed from the central control room.

We are very happy with the service we get from Eemits. It is well known that Eemits staff have good knowledge of what they're doing and problems are dealt with in an effective and timely manner.
