This is down to the fact that it is classed as a "smart radio" - one that boasts an ecosystem of Android apps, and the ability to switch between Digital Mobile Radio signal (DMR), 4G LTE signal and broadand connection.
Designed to look more like a smartphone, the ION has a touchscreen and full multimedia capabilities. Despite not looking like a walkie talkie, the ION is a dedicated PTT device, so communication with users is instant, and there's no need for someone to pick up a call via a ringing method.
If end users are in area where 3G or 4G signal drops out, the device will automatically switch to DMR signal, bringing into play the "always on" mantra.
Due to its status as a "smart radio" its pricing point is towards the higher end of the market, but it's smart features and functionality make it one of the most advanced products out there.
