Eemits at the Dogger Bank Innovation Workshop

Dogger Bank Wind Farm recently held an innovation workshop at the home of the Newcastle Eagles (Vertu Motors Arena) to give attendees an update on the world's largest offshore wind farm - and explain to everyone the innovation being used right now, and the innovation they want in the future.
A representative of Eemits Communications was lucky enough to be there to hear all about the project, and was on hand to also explain to other attendeeds how the company has been involved in the construction phase of the project, and has a foothold within the O&M phase too.
Dogger Bank Wind Farm feels the power
One of the biggest takeaways from the workshop was that the wind farm has sent its first power to the UK Grid. It marked a historical moment for what will become the world's largest offshore wind farm when it gets to full production, and has 277 wind turbines generating enough energy to power up to six million UK homes.
There was a sense of poetry when two fireworks went off outside the four walls of the Newcastle Eagles, as stakeholders and watchers-by got to soak up an historic announcement.
Creating the right innovation
As the theme of the day suggested, innovation was at the heart of the workshop. Project leaders explained how GE Renewable Energy's ground-breaking Haliade-X turbines are not only twice the span of a wing found on the Angel of the North, but they are helping the world's largest offshore wind farm became a innovation powerhouse in the game.
Other innovations such as unique ways of lifting have been developed, and over its lifespan, its estimated that over 1 million lifts will be saved. Helping to drive efficiency for one of the most important wind farms of a generation.
We also got the chance to hear from a range of innovators in the room, including ORE Catapult, who spoke passionately about the use of smart data and 5G at its port base in Grimsby, and from stakeholder managers themselves about how important innovation is - and the need for more of it from key people in the room. It's certainly something Eemits can help with, particularly when it comes to smart infrastructure.
The chain reaction
When it comes to being the world's largest offshore wind farm it's only normal that the project relies on a strong supply chain. One that can help the project's aims and goals of becoming one of the most powerful suppliers of energy in the UK.
The room was packed full of businesses who either wanted to build upon their existing relationship with Dogger Bank wind farm or introduce themselves to key stakeholders.
