Eemits at Offshore Wind North East 2023

Eemits Requalifies for SafeContractor Accreditation

Offshore Wind North East (OWNE) returned for 2023, and Eemits Communications - along with hundreds of other businesses and delegates - travelled to the Beacon of Light in Sunderland to hear all about the offshore wind industry in the North East of England, and beyond.

The power of existing projects

In the room was a host of industry leaders. This included representatives of Dogger Bank wind farm and Sofia wind farm (a site that sits within the Dogger Bank perimiter). Beyond respresentatives of two major North East wind farms, there was thought leaders from across the industry and supply chain - and here's what we picked up during the two days.

Billions of opportunities

It's no secret that the industry is chomping at the bit to get a host of projects beyond the point of being merely a pipeline dream. In fact, the pipeline has almost 100GW worth of power ready to be generated.

And collectively, the industry could boost the UK economy by £92 billion (by 2024) if projects can become reality. Now, this reality is reliant on bids at auctions, and the right backing from government and other funding sources.

Deal, or no deal?

Throughout the event, it was clear that progress for offshore wind farm was hindering on whether projects could attract investors, amidst a cloud of uncertainity caused by a "no deal" auction round back in September.

The good news since OWNE is the UK Government has announced that offshore wind subsidies will rise by 66 per cent as it looks to attract more investment to a pipeline that is in danger of getting lost at sea.

A supply chain to be proud of

As you walked around the room there was positive chatter amongst everyone from port services to underwater camera specialists. The North East has a rich history in the offshore wind space, having delivered the first ever UK wind farm in 2000, off the coast of Northumberland.

Fast forward 23 years later, and businesses from all over the country were looking to get involved in North East projects (and beyond).

The race to Net Zero requires a healthy supply chain. One that brings innovation and new ways of thinking for operators to get the most out of producing electricity via renewable sources.

Eemits and the offshore wind industry

So, why were Eemits at OWNE? Well, we already have a strong presence in the offshore and onshore wind farm space. This includes two-way communication solutions for the Dogger Bank wind farm, including a solution for GE Renewable Energy at the Able Port in Seaton Carew. Here, GE are constructing their Haliade-X turbines to turn Dogger Bank into not only the world's biggest, but one of the most innovative projects ever.

Aside from Dogger Bank, we support a global operator with two-way communication solutions for all of their UK wind farms. This includes the new NnG wind farm in Scotland.

If you'd like to speak with a two-way communication expert for your next project, then contact us today. Or, call us on 0800 328 0100 between 8:30am and 5:15pm Monday to Friday.
